Abstract:
A novel amylase was isolated from the Mucor sp. associated with the marine sponge Spirastrella sp., grown at 30 degrees C. The enzyme has an optimum pH of 5.0 and an optimum temperature of 60 degrees C. The half lives of the partially purified enzyme at 55 and 60 degrees C were 120 and 50 min, respectively. The activation and deactivation energies of the partially purified enzyme were 46.60 and 157.05 kJ mol(-1), respectively. The enzyme activity was not affected by the addition of 3% NaCl, 10 mM Ca2+ and 25 mM Mg2+, but was strongly inhibited by EDTA. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
