Leaching of galena is a complex process and, for any process development it is necessary to ensure complete characterisation of oxidation products that appear after leaching. These products form as feed materials to smelters for lead recovery. This paper presents a systematic study to understand changes in mineralogy that occur when pure galena mineral and single concentrate are treated by oxidative ammonia leaching. The leaching data thus obtained are corroborated by X-ray diffraction and chemical, phase analysis.
