Bioleaching of Sukinda lateritic nickel are was carried out using a species of filamentous fungus Penicillium. Tile parameters examined were pulp density (2-20%), dextrose concentration in the leaching medium (2-10%) and size fraction of the ore (-44 to -350 BSS). Under optimum conditions this fungus could leach a maximum of 96% Co, 40% Mn and 12.5% Ni indicating its selectivity of leaching the former two metals.
