Abstract:
Adsorption of the non-interacting amines, 2, 6-dimethylpyridine, 2, 6-dimethylpiperidine and 2, 6-dimethylmorpholine, in cyclohexane on some Indian Ocean manganese nodules has been studied. A linear relationship between the acidities and the surface OH concentrations of the samples suggests that the adsorption sites may be strong acid sites (Bronsted sites). N-2 adsorption at 77 degrees K shows that these materials are mesoporous with surface area values in the range 97-130 m(2)/g.
