An investigation was made to study the galvanic interaction between synthetically prepared MnO2 and natural pyrite in dilute H2SO4 solution. A dual cell set up was employed to measure self corrosion potential of each electrode as well as the galvanic current and the mixed potential. Chemical analysis of the species in a coupled (beta-MnO2 and FeS2 electrodes) leaching experiment was compared with the self and galvanic corrosion values obtained in the dual cell experiments. The galvanic current measured was of the order of 1.7 mA/cm2 and is much larger than the self corrosion of the respective individual minerals providing brighter scope of leaching both the minerals at mild leaching conditions.
