Abstract:
The Workshop Department of CSIR-IMMT, established in 1965, has played a vital role in supporting research and development by providing fabrication, modification, design, and repair facilities for laboratory and pilot-scale equipment. Over the years, it has modernized with CAD, CAM, CNC machines, and advanced welding technologies to enhance R\&D outputs. The workshop has successfully executed major fabrication works, infrastructure development projects, and contributed significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic by developing sanitization devices and medical waste incinerators. With state-of-the-art facilities, numerous completed projects, and extensive collaborations, it has supported scientists and technologists across disciplines. The department also conducts training programs, apprenticeships, and CSIR skill initiatives, producing skilled manpower employed in reputed national organizations like ISRO, NISER, Indian Navy, and Tata Steel. Its legacy of service since 1973 reflects excellence in fabrication, innovation, and human resource development, making it a cornerstone of CSIR-IMMT’s technological growth.
