Abstract:
Adsorption of cobalt(II) from an ammoniacal ammonium sulphate solution with lignite was studied. The effect of various parameters like pH, contact time, temperature, molarity of ammonium sulphate, lignite particle size, sorbent/sorbate ratio were also studied. It was observed that cobalt adsorption was maximum at pH 9.1 and decreased with increasing particle size, temperature and molarity of (NH4)2SO4. The loading capacity of lignite was also determined. The effect of sulphuric acid concentration on desorption of cobalt from lignite was studied. The adsorption data have been fitted to the classical adsorption equations of Freundlich and Langmuir.
