Zinc and cobalt sulphides are precipitated from an ammoniacal solution containing ammonium sulphate by controlled addition of sodium sulphide solution. The kinetics of the reaction have been studied. Zinc shows first order kinetics whereas cobalt shows three kinetic regions with an induction period in the first region. This difference is exploited to obtain differential precipitation of sulphides.
