A process for preparation of Y-stabilised t'-zirconia using a thermal plasma technique is presented. The plasma treatment of premixed oxides to yield t'-zirconia was carried out in an extended arc plasma reactor. The product is found to be non-transformable under stress and has excellent resistance to low-temperature (200-degrees-C) thermal aging. Studies on annealed samples revealed that the t'-phase is stable up to 1400-degrees-C.
