Extraction of copper using LIX64N-kerosene SLM was studied. Membrane diffusion constant for the copper-LIX64N complex was determined to be 3.35x10-11 m2s-1 from the dialysis experiment. The parameters studied for determination of rate constants were pH, LIX64N concentration, copper concentration and temperature. The chemical rate constant as k-1, k(ex) and aqueous film diffusion constant k(w) were estimated from different approximated limiting conditions and from kinetic study. The rate of copper permeation is limited by membrane diffusion of the complex in the pH region of 3.0 to 4.5 and interfacial chemical reaction control processes in the pH region of 0.98 to 3.0. The activation energy associated with membrane diffusion was found to be 23.5 kJ mol-1 and for interfacial chemical reaction process to be 69.7 kJ. mol-1.
