Abstract:
Zn-Mg-Cu based Al metal matrix composites (MMCs) reinforced with 5, 15, and 25 wt.% of SiC particulates were synthesized by liquid metallurgy stir casting process and heat-treated to T6 condition. Patterns of particle dispersion were observed through optical microscopy, and elemental constituents of the MMCs at different diffraction angles were investigated through X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Influence of reinforcement content on density, porosity, and hardness of the MMCs was also investigated. Results showed an increase of density, porosity and hardness on increasing the wt.% of SiC particulates in the developed MMCs. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
