Studies on preparation of titanium by electrodeoxidation of sintered titanium dioxide pellets in molten calcium chloride bath is reported. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopic and electron probe microanalysis studies of the product at different stages of the electrolysis confirmed the formation of titanium. Current-time characteristics and the mechanism of the electrolytic process are also discussed.
