For a typical solution of iron(III), conditions for extraction from chloride solutions were established using D2EHPA, PC 88A and CYANEX 272 as extractants. Stripping of Fe(III) loaded on to D2EHPA, PC 88A and CYANEX 272 was studied using both sulphuric and hydrochloric acids. The results indicated that comparatively higher concentrations of both the acids are required to strip iron loaded on to D2EHPA as compared with PC 88A and CYANEX 272. To reduce the acid concentration required for iron stripping in the D2EHPA system, PC 88A was added in different proportions during extraction. From the loaded organic thus generated, comparable (even slightly higher) iron stripping efficiencies could be achieved at half the acid concentrations in case of H2SO4 and the acid requirement is lower by at least 1 N to obtain similar stripping efficiencies in case of HCl. |
