dc.description.abstract Potentiostatic data are reported for cathodic polarisation of nichrome at room temperature ill HCl and mixture of HCl-NaCl. The applied current density (i(app)) at fixed overpotential, is proportional to hydrogen ion concentration in simple HCl and chloride ion concentration ill the mixture of HCl-NaCl where HCl concentration is kept constant at 1.0 N. In the mixture of tow concentration of HCl (0.04 N to 0.22 Nf and high concentration of NaCl (1.0 N to 3.0 N), the current density is found to be independent of both the concentrations, Langmuirs adsorption isotherm has been used to establish the mechanism of the process, The anodic polarisation studies were carried out in HCl upto 1.0 N. The critical current density is found to increase with increase in chloride ion concentration.
