The effects of pyridine and some of its derivatives on deposit quality, morphology, crystallographic orientation, polarisation characteristics, current efficiency and power consumption for zinc electrowinning from sulphate electrolyte were determined and the results were compared with gum Arabic. Among these additives. 2-picoline and 4-ethylpyridine in combination with Sb produced characteristic zinc morphology with preferred orientations (101) (112) (102) (103) (114). It was also possible to achieve current efficiency above 90% with significant reduction in power consumption. |
