Sulphate-reducing bacteria isolated from submerged soil samples of paddy fields effectively precipitated copper from aqueous solution with maximum effect (75%) at 25 ppm Cu2+. As the copper concentration was increased to 100 ppm, precipitation efficiency decreased significantly. The use of bacteria to precipitate heavy metal ions from aqueous effluents is discussed. |
