dc.description.abstract The extraction of copper(II) from its solutions containing varying amounts of ammonium sulphate (1-4 M) over a pH range of 2 to 10 using Hostarex DK-16 in kerosene has been studied. Extraction seems to be less at higher pH due to the formation of free ammonia, which subsequently gives rise to non-extractable copper ammine complexes. The amount of copper extracted against pH is shown in the distribution curves. Theoretically calculated distribution values have been compared with the experimental ones. The results were further substantiated with the FTIR spectra of the extracts.
