dc.description.abstract It is well established that direct reduction of iron ore by solid carbon plays a small role in reduction, which essentially takes place via gaseous intermediate. In the present work an attempt has been taken to develop a mathematic model for reduction of iron ore fines with coal char fines in a mixed system. For this model two kinetic equations, i.e., reduction of iron ore fines by CO and the gasification of coal char by CO2, have been used. The model developed predicts the degree of reduction (alpha) with time (t) at fixed temperatures of reduction (T) and C(fix)/Fe(T) ratios for reduction of iron ore fines by coal char fines.
