The Design and Project Engineering Department (D\&PE) of CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, established in 1964 as the Process Engineering Group, has evolved over six decades into the present Pipeline Transport Systems and Societal Technologies Department, contributing significantly to the fields of slurry pipeline transportation, pneumatic conveying, high concentration slurry disposal, and mineral process equipment design, while also pioneering impactful societal technologies such as the Terafil water filter, improved cookstoves, biomass gasifiers, dryers, and sewage treatment systems. The department has executed numerous national and industrial projects, provided basic design engineering for more than 30 companies, and established state-of-the-art facilities for rheological studies, erosion–corrosion testing, and vertical slurry transport, thereby positioning itself as a national leader in pipeline transportation and mineral handling. At the same time, through the dissemination and commercialization of rural technologies via MSMEs, it has improved access to clean water, energy-efficient cooking, and sustainable rural development solutions, reflecting its dual mandate of advancing industrial innovation and addressing community needs in line with CSIR’s national mission. |
