dc.description.abstract Dissolution of nichrome in sulphuric acid has been studied with and without the addition of sodium sulphate. Both nickel and chromium dissolved non-selectively and their dissolution was found to follow the shrinking core model (1-(1-R)1/2 = Kt) and increased with increase in temperature (70-degrees - 110-degrees-C) with an activation energy of 16.4 kJ. Dissolution of both the constituent metals was found to be dependent on the hydrogen ion activity of the solution with an order of about 0.4 and independent of sulphate ion activity in the range studied.
