A rapid one step process was achieved for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using phenolic rich bark extract of Terminalia arjuna. Characterisation of AgNPs was performed by using different analytical tools and techniques. Synthesised AgNPs were potentially cytotoxic to human breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) in a dose and time dependent manner as assayed through MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] and nuclear staining method. Further, the synthesised AgNPs were found to possess marked antimicrobial activity against bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumonia, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and one fungal strain (Aspergillus niger). |
