dc.description.abstract Three samples of Orissa fly ash without further grinding and size classification are characterized and compared for their potential use for mineral recovery. Compositions or major, minor and trace elements were determined by AAS, ICP and XRF analyses. As expected major mineral phases, like quartz, mullite, magnetite and hematite are identified by X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. The particle size distribution study revealed a marked observation on the fineness of the particle which provides large active surface area for mineral leaching.
