dc.description.abstract An inflight thermal plasma processing route for processing metallized ilmenite has been demonstrated for the production of TiO2 rich slag & iron metal. The thermal plasma reactor uses a suitably designed powder feeder for carrying the charge. A systematic study has been reported here by varying the various experimental parameters viz. feed rate, degree of metallization of feed, time, to find the effects on slag quality and energy consumption. The results show that by optimizing the experimental parameters it would be possible to minimize energy consumption of the process to make it commercially viable.
