Raw materials are important for advanced ceramics. The performance of advanced ceramics primarily depends on the quality of raw materials. In the development of advanced ceramics, extraordinary control of the raw materials and the processing operations are requisite to minimize the micro-structural defects. The important challenge to the powder manufacturers of today is to develop appropriate techniques, which will not only provide suitable raw material of required properties but at a competitive price. This paper reviews status of raw materials, selection of raw materials and additives, different processes for the preparation of synthetic raw materials, nano-materials and global perspective vis-a-vis Indian status and future prospect. |
