Conventional methods for production of TiO2 generate a huge amount of effluents. The world trend is bending towards a new clean technology for its production. Though thermal plasma technology has been in operation in several parts of the world, in India it has not been possible to accept the same only because of the high energy consumption involved in the process which will subsequently raise production cost. RRL (Bhubaneswar) jointly with RRL (Trivandrum) developed a new ecofriendly and cost effective process for the preparation of titania rich slag and high value iron from ilmenite using plasma technology. In course of the present investigation detailed experiments and results of the new process are presented. |
